Meet Jélen

Jélen Gillis. Graphic Designer. East Chicago, Indiana.

Introduce yourself!

Hey, I’m Jélen Gillis! I’m a graphic designer from East Chicago, IN and proud graduate of Purdue University.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do? Who are you?

Who am I? Just a humble guy from a small city with big dreams. Life has made me a Creative Problem Solver.

So, when I’m not watching Doctor Who or experimenting with recipes in the kitchen, I’m thinking of ways to use my artistic gifts to create positive changes within my community and our world.

Tell us about your business and projects?

I am a freelance graphic and web designer, currently seeking full-time employment within the corporate marketing industry.

For my clients, I design logos, posters/flyers, websites, web ads, and any other promotional and branding materials they may need.

Most people have a general message they’d like their brand to communicate to the world and my job is to make sure that idea is expressed successfully and creatively.

What do you like about your business? Why do you do it? What is your passion?

The arts have been a lifelong passion of mine; drawing and acting have always been my greatest outlets. So, I was naturally drawn to a career requiring artistic and communication skills. However, my main passion is just being able to help and educate people. I enjoy that my business helps others see things like advertisements and logos as more than just mere words and pictures. But, the best part of being a freelance designer is being able to work almost anywhere at any time.

What are your goals for your business for the future? Where do you see yourself and your business years from now?

Currently, my goals are to gain new clientele in order to build my portfolio and work towards funding a graduate degree. I’d like to gain more experience within a design agency or large corporation, but in a few years, I’d like to see myself successful and self-employed with a thriving business that can bring jobs and positive change to my home and cities like it.

If you could describe yourself in one word right now, what would it be?

Right now? Hungry! I haven’t eaten all day. But in general, I’d say adaptable.

What is one takeaway you want people to know about you or your business?

I’d like people to know that I’m a dedicated designer and looking to take on new projects! You can brand yourself or a product many ways, let me help you find the most successful.

What do you do? Who are you?

I am a creative, adding artistic value to everything I do. I like to adventure, explore, learn, travel and meet new people, all while documenting as much as I can through my photographs. I am dedicated to the work I do and enjoy sharing my work with others. I believe my eye for detail keeps me unique.

Tell us about your business and projects?

My business right now just consists of me, myself and I trying to show the world what I can do. I want to be able to make a difference, not only in my own life, but in the lives of those near and far to me. I want my photographs to spark a flame in those who see them and for those photographs to motivate people to make a difference in the world as well, whether starting with themselves or others around them. My projects vary from landscape to commercial to product and people, I have an interest in all kinds of photography and in learning how to make each kind unique to my business, my passion.

What is your passion?

Currently, I like that my business only consists of me, because in order to make a change in the world one must make changes in oneself. My passion is photography and using photography to capture moments that are rarely captured or rarely cherished, and show the world their beauty. I love what I do because I can see how it impacts the world, and I can learn from myself through my photography.

What is a business goal you have you'd like to share?

Share meaningful and intentional stories with the world, through photographs. I’d like to make a positive impact on the world, in as many ways possible.

If you could describe yourself in one word right now, what would it be?

What is one takeaway you want people to know about you or your business?

I am always exploring and innovating to create beautiful and intentional photographs. I dabble in all kinds of photography, as I am still finding my niche, and think it is important to be a very well-rounded photographer (and a well-rounded person in general for that matter :).

Meet Gino

Gino Recchia is Chief Meteorologist at KQDS-TV. Duluth, Minnesota.

What city do you hail from?

Chicago, IL

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m from Chicago and in January of 2015 to be the weekend meteorologist here at FOX 21. I was promoted to Chief Meteorologist in February 2016.

Tell us about your job.

FOX 21 is a broadcast television station that covers counties in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. From Summer severe weather to Winter blizzards, the Northland as we call it up here has it all.

What are your future goals?

I started as a weekend meteorologist and got promoted to chief. I want to continue to develop my on-air talent and continue to move up in the business to a bigger city hopefully making it one day back to the city that I am from.

What do you like about what you do? Why do you do it? What is your passion?

I like that everyone here is very open and welcoming. We are a family here and we work hard to give our viewers the content they deserve. I personally enjoy working as an on-air meteorologist because I love weather and I don’t feel like this is a job. On my days off, I am constantly looking at the weather. I love talking about weather to other people and being on air allows me to do just that.

If you could describe yourself in one word right now, what would it be?

What is one takeaway you want people to know about you?

I love what I do. There are some people in this business who care more about them being on camera and less about what they are supposed to be doing. I truly have loved weather ever since I was a little boy and I don’t think that is ever going to change.

Meet Aharon

Aharon Hannan. Engineer. Photographer. Seattle, Washington.

What city do you hail from?

Seattle, WA

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a Purdue University Graduate who recently moved out to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a career in engineering. The update in scenery provides me a way to explore a new region of the country and has opened my eyes to seeing and experiencing a new culture.

Tell us about your project? What is it?

Outside of engineering work, I enjoy photography and web design. For my photography journey, I enjoy going to National Parks and taking pictures of the landscapes and going star gazing. I have photographed the Milky Way a couple of times and hope to one day experience and photograph the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Outside of photography, I enjoy mentoring charity student organizations with web design in order to help them boost traffic and awareness of their organization on campus.

What do you like about your business? What is your passion?

Photography gives me a new challenge to perceive the world differently and allows me to become more observant. It provides me with a balance of thinking not only analytically, but artistically when it comes to telling a story through a lens.

Currently, I am doing a series of photography projects on my website called AHnecdotes where I try to portray people’s lives through still images and writing their story. There is a lot you can tell by looking at people and I am trying to capture their essence through photography.

If you could describe yourself in one word right now, what would it be?
